Ealing Physiotherapy could Save the NHS a Lot from Injury Treatment

By: BryanKelly (Psst, View author in Google Plus) Date: Oct 7th, 2014

Prevention will always be a worthier effort than a cure. In the case of the National Health Service (NHS), the lack of prevention among patients just set them back millions of pounds. Dan Bean, contributor for the York Press, describes how proper Ealing physiotherapy could have saved the NHS precious time and resources.

New research by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), found almost 200,000 falls could be prevented across England, saving lives and saving £275 for the NHS.

In North Yorkshire and Humber, 6,668 falls could be prevented, saving the NHS £9,748,984.

Could have, would have, should have

Officials from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) believe that inasmuch as accidents like falls do happen, being physically conditioned could minimise the incidence of serious injuries. Despite the availability of physiotherapy services, many do not seem mindful of the possibility of being gravely hurt in an accident.

Professor Karen Middleton, CSP chief executive, said: "Falls are not an inevitable part of the ageing process – they are often avoidable and investing in services can prevent these potentially devastating accidents.

Learn from the right professionals

It’s indeed a pity that advice from Ealing physio practices like CK Physiotherapy fall on deaf ears much of the time. It costs next to nothing to heed their guidance, and doing so will pay off handsomely for both the NHS and the patient.

"Physiotherapists deliver services that develop strength and balance, educate people about risk factors and provide essential information on what to do if they do suffer a fall. Too many lives are being ruined by unnecessary falls despite specialist support being available that could prevent them and save huge sums for the NHS at the same time."

Information campaign

The NHS has sponsored an information drive to make everyone conscious about their physiological well-being, more so for seniors. The creation of eye-catching and motivating print materials such as posters and brochures seem to be having a positive effect on the public who are encouraged to indulge in sports, physical conditioning, stretching, tips on managing daily aches and pains, and even the correct way to recover and stand up from a fall. Finally, the brochure provides simple strengthening and stretching exercises to perform at home for those who have been seated for long periods during the day.
