The Relationship Between Regular Exercise and Physiotherapy Treatments

By: BryanKelly (Psst, View author in Google Plus) Date: Jun 3rd, 2016

It has been known for quite some time that including exercise within a physical rehabilitation programme can have noticeably positive results in terms of recovery times and pain management. However, there are some other benefits that may not be as apparent to the average individual. What potential advantages can the inclusion of exercise within a therapeutic physiotherapy session in Ealing offer the patient?

Core Strength

Strengthening the core muscle groups of the body is critical to eliminate pain and prevent further injuries. Areas such as the lower back and the abdominal region are particularly relevant here. When these muscles are strengthened over time, the patient will be able to increase his or her activity levels without the concern of future injury. Additionally, common problems such as lower back pain could be significantly lessened over time.

How Does Regular Exercise Related to Physiotherapy Treatments?

Heart Health

A significant portion of those who undergo regular physical therapy treatments live a sedentary lifestyle. Not only can this affect the physical health of the body, but the heart is also placed at a greater risk. Studies have shown that moderate exercise sessions will help to mitigate the impact and severity of heart disease. This will enable patients to enjoy longer lives while the chances of cardiac problems can be lessened.

Pain Management

Another impressive effect of exercise is that the body releases certain hormones which act to lessen the amount of pain that is felt. Endorphins such as epinephrine play important roles here, for they can be crucial in regards to medium-term pain management. Without exercise, some individuals may instead be forced to resort to prescription medication.

Mobility

Most modern Ealing physio practitioners will cite that increased mobility is a key component in long-term recovery rates. Exercise programmes help to keep muscles pliable and strong. Even levels of general coordination can be enhanced with the proper guidance. Not only will this aid in mobility issues, but the chances of a subsequent slip and fall could also be reduced.

These are only a handful of the most profound benefits that exercise can have upon any current physiotherapy routine. It is still very important to only perform such activities under the guidance and recommendations of a trained professional.
