So what is Physiotherapy and how can it alleviate your pain?

How can physiotherapy help?

Physiotherapy can help you if your movement or function has been affected by injury, illness or disability. Physiotherapists hold degrees and the discipline is very much science-based. We use our skills and knowledge to improve a wide range of conditions, treating injuries and disease by stimulating the body’s natural healing process. Physiotherapy can help you at any time in your life. It aims to help anyone at any age.

So whether you have suffered a sudden injury such as whiplash or a sports injury, a long-term complaint such as asthma or back pain, or even complications after childbirth, physiotherapy can do much to aid your recovery.

Physiotherapy to alleviate pain

Physiotherapy can help in addressing several conditions in people of all ages, regardless if these problems are orthopaedic, neurological or cardiopulmonary in nature. The basis of physiotherapy is firmly rooted in healthcare and uses knowledge of the different systems of the body to alleviate pain and promote recovery.

CK Physio employs various therapeutic methods to increase a patient’s range of motion, improve his strength and endurance, and reduce joint pain and stiffness.

There are four main systems in the human body, and physiotherapy has much to offer in promoting their efficient function.

Systems helped by physiotherapy treatments

The main systems are:

  • Neurological (e.g. stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s).
  • Neuromusculoskeletal (e.g. a backache, neck pain, whiplash, sports injuries, arthritis, childbirth).
  • Cardiovascular (e.g. heart disease, rehabilitation after a heart attack).
  • Respiratory (e.g. asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis).

Diseases that can be helped with physiotherapy treatment

A large percentage of physiotherapists handle neurological diseases and focus on creating personalized programs based on the patient’s requirements to counter them. Many problems can be helped by applying physiotherapy including:

  • Asthma
  • Arthritis
  • Back pain
  • Cardiovascular problems
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Cystic fibrosis
  • Incontinence
  • Neck pain
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Stroke
  • Sports injuries

Physiotherapy is highly recommended in addressing injuries of the bones, joints and muscles, as well as neurological ailments. All treatments can only be effective when performed by an experienced and certified physio. It works by taking a holistic approach. We look at you as a ‘whole person’, including your general lifestyle. CK Physio’s aim is to treat the person, and not just the symptom.

Your involvement in your own care is vital. We can help you by explaining your condition, developing your awareness and empowering you by gaining your participation in your treatment. Our approach is hands-on, involving manual therapy and exercise.

Physiotherapy treatment is non-invasive

Physiotherapy is non-invasive and is suitable for everyone. It can help to manage pain, prevent disease and maintain mobility and independence. It is equally appropriate for sudden injuries (e.g. sports injuries, rehabilitation from heart attacks) and chronic diseases (e.g. asthma, Parkinson’s) as well as preparing for major events such as childbirth and running a marathon (not recommended simultaneously!).
